The Pharmacy Supervisor directs the daily operations and staff of the Pediatric Satellite Pharmacy to ensure high-quality patient care is provided in compliance with all laws, regulations, and Institute policies and practices.

The Pharmacy Supervisor works with other members of the pharmacy leadership team to coordinate and administer the pharmacy quality assurance and quality control initiatives as well as help develop, implement, and administer pharmacy and institute policies and procedures. Oversee about 3-4 pharmacists. Pharmacists oversee pharmacy tech’s work but they have a different pharmacy tech supervisor.

 

 

The Pharmacy supervisor works with Human Resources to interview and hire pharmacists and technicians. This individual coordinates the orientation and onboarding of new staff members to their locations as well as ensure ongoing training and competencies are met.

 

The Pharmacy Supervisor is expected to develop and maintain effective working relationships with DFCI personnel and serve on departmental and interdepartmental committees. It is expected that they be current regarding trends and developments in pharmacy practice and serve as a role model and mentor to the professional and technical staff. The Pharmacy Supervisor is expected to be able to step in, when needed, and carry out all functions of a clinical dispensing pharmacist and pharmacy technician.



Responsibilities

  • Provide daily oversight of the staff and the pharmacy operations of the Satellite Pharmacy and encourage excellence in work habits, inclusivity, maintaining the pharmacy, and customer service.
  • Set the schedule for pharmacy coverage (pharmacists and technicians). Track vacation requests and approve based on staff availability. Arrange coverage when employees call in with unexpected absences. Approve weekly payroll.
  • Assess daily volume and ensure adequate coverage to meet needs. Coordinate daily assignments.
  • Round daily with pharmacists/technicians to address any concerns they have or issues that arise.
  • Develop and implement efficient workflows within the pharmacy.
  • Act as a liaison to and communicate regularly with providers, infusion nurses, charge nurses, and nursing directors and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Identify, triage, and resolve any issues related to pharmacy.
  • Regularly meets with Nurse Directors and physician leadership to review any issues as they arise in the infusion and clinic areas.
  • Work in conjunction with the pharmacy staff, physicians, and/or nurses when a new medication or procedure change is introduced.
  • Leads the development and implementation of the pharmacy’s quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Verify that quality controls are being completed and documented daily, weekly, and monthly; identify gaps and work to remedy.
  • Participate in and lead quality improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of pharmacy policies and procedures in collaboration with other members of the leadership team
  • Staff interviewing, hiring and onboarding including oversight of orientation and training
  • Provide staffing coverage as needed


Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree or Doctorate in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy is required along with 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience, 2 years of oncology experience, and 1 year in a supervisory/ leadership role or equivalent. Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or eligible

 


Approximate salary range is $115,000 to $135,000
