Job Title: Radiology/ CT Technologist

Reports To: Radiology Manager

Summary: Performs activities of diagnostic imaging department by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintains patient flow, achieve production goals, and conform to established protocols and procedures.

Operates imaging equipment such as x-ray machines, sonography equipment, fluoroscope, CT (computerized tomography) scanner, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) equipment, evaluates accuracy and quality of images, and provides technical assistance.

Follows radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with government regulatory requirements.

Stays informed of new medical imaging equipment and standards of patient care.

Reviews current literature and attends meetings and seminars to keep informed of new developments in field.

Provides patient education for diagnostic testing.
QUALIFICATIONS
- ARRT and CT Certification required
- BLS Certified
- Texas licensed Certified Medical Radiology Technologist
- 2-3 years CT experience
- Possess a level of clinical expertise and competency in cross sectional anatomy
- Must have the ability to handle critical care situations which can create a high level of stress
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Clinical Practice
- Know and demonstrate proficiency of all CT examinations.
- Maintains the safety of the CT suite in conjunction with patients and multidisciplinary staff.
- Evaluates examination orders for pertinent clinical information and assesses needs of patient and requirements for the exam in conjunction with the radiologist.
- Recognize emergent patient conditions.
- Coordinates critical patient transport with appropriate nursing personnel and/or Respiratory Therapy.
- Collaborates with Radiology RN’s and anesthesia as needed.

- Demonstrate competency and proficiency in performing all CT procedures.
- Identify anatomical orientation, sequencing of images and verify accurate patient identification of images for accurate record retention and archiving.
- Accurately assess, select, prepare and administer contrast materials to patients in accordance to best clinical practices.
- Demonstrate competency and efficiency in Radiation Safety.
- Ability to assess patient condition; preserve patient safety through proper use of immobilization devices.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient and medical Center related information.
- Care of Environment and Equipment
- Supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
- Demonstrates correct and safe techniques in the use of equipment.
- Maintain a clean, neat and safe environment for patients and staff according to Medical Center Policies.
- Information Processing
- Use computer system in documenting, correctly and accurately, patient information.
- Proficient in computer terminology and applications.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform all necessary computer operations to include PACS system. Verify accurate charge capture for procedures performed.
- Accurately transcribe physician orders and facilitate correcting mistakes or unclear orders with appropriate people.
- Quality Improvement and Safety
- Report all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors, or other Medical Center employees.
- Assist in identifying appropriate indicators for the department’s Quality Improvement programs.
- Initiate occurrence reports when problems are identified.
